Meet the Trainer
Camille Lina, KPA CTP
Hello! I am a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP) and hold a Masters in Italian Language & Linguistics from Middlebury College in Vermont, and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development from University of California San Diego.
My interest in professional dog training began in 2014 when I started fostering orphaned dogs through a Napa Valley’s own foster based, grassroots animal rescue, Wine Country Animal Lovers. In the winter of 2017, I took in a sad looking and wounded brown puppy who had been attacked and abandoned. It wasn’t long before I realized that puppy’s forever home was going to be with me. Through training my own dog, Maggie Mae, and being inspired by animal rescue, I fell in love with the science of animal training. And well, that was that.
In 2020 I was accepted into the globally distinguished Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional Program. Through this comprehensive program, I gained a foundation in field of behavior science and the practice of modern animal training, with an emphasis in dog training, client coaching, behavior problem solving, and dog training business management. In January 2021 I completed the Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional Program, earning certification as a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA-CTP).
I have been a volunteer for Wine Country Animal Lovers (WCAL) since 2017, spending my time as an animal foster, foster mentor, adoptions counselor, and board member.
Shake it Off Dog Training is based out of Yountville California and provides in-person and virtual services to Napa, Yountville, Saint Helena, and Calistoga proper. Services outside of this area are also available virtually or in person when possible (a travel fee may be assessed).
Training Methodology
I may get nostalgic for the ‘old days’, but when it comes to dog training I am sure glad that some things have changed. Our collective understanding of animal behavior has grown a lot over the years, transforming the way we think about dog training. I approach training with a modern, choice-driven, compassionate methodology that is grounded in the science of behavior. It’s no trick —just meeting a dog’s needs and focusing on rewards-based techniques that are free from pain, force and intimidation. This method is so effective, you can use it to train almost any animal —humans included. It’s not magic, but I can understand why some of my clients think so.
I believe that the training process should be just as rewarding for humans. As my client you’ll receive text and email support for any questions that arise between sessions as well as feedback on a regular basis. I’ll take your concerns to heart and keep you motivated along the way.
